All Ghana passport applications in Germany go through the Embassy of Ghana in Berlin — the only Ghanaian mission in the country. Because biometric data must be captured in person, every adult applicant travels to Stavangerstrasse at least once, whether they live around the corner in Pankow or four hours away in Munich.

How the Process Works from Germany

Ghana issues biometric passports, and the physical booklets are printed at the Passport Application Centre in Accra, not in Berlin. That single fact explains most of the timeline: the embassy captures your application and biometrics, forwards everything to Accra, and receives the finished passport back for collection or dispatch. Standard processing is 6-8 weeks from the date of capture. If you have travel planned, apply well before your ticket dates — the embassy cannot print a passport locally, however urgent the case. The practical order is: obtain the German birth certificate (Geburtsurkunde) from the local Standesamt — request the international/multilingual version if offered — then register the birth with the embassy to establish the child’s citizenship, and only then apply for the child’s first passport. Lost or Stolen Passports in Germany

Report the loss to the German police first. You can do this at any local police station (Polizeidienststelle); in many federal states the online police portal (Onlinewache) also accepts loss and theft reports. Obtain the written report or reference — the embassy will ask for it.
