Ghana Visa Types & Requirements

Tourist Visa

For leisure travel, visiting family or friends, or short-term visits to Ghana.

  • Duration: Up to 60 days (single or multiple entry)
  • Fee: $60-150 USD depending on nationality and entry type
  • Requirements: Valid passport (6+ months), completed application form, 2 passport photos, proof of accommodation, return flight ticket, proof of funds, Yellow Fever certificate
  • Processing: 5-10 working days (embassy), 3-5 days (e-Visa)
  • Extension: Can be extended at Ghana Immigration Service offices in Ghana

Business Visa

For business meetings, conferences, trade activities, and commercial negotiations.

  • Duration: Up to 60 days (single or multiple entry)
  • Fee: $100-200 USD
  • Additional requirements: Invitation letter from a Ghana-based company, letter from employer, proof of business activities
  • Note: Does not permit employment. For working in Ghana, a work permit is required.

Transit Visa

For travellers passing through Ghana en route to another destination.

  • Duration: Up to 48 hours
  • Fee: $30-50 USD
  • Requirements: Proof of onward journey, valid visa for final destination (if required)

Student Visa

For individuals enrolled at a recognised Ghanaian educational institution.

  • Duration: Duration of the academic programme
  • Fee: $60-100 USD
  • Requirements: Admission letter from the institution, proof of fees payment, proof of accommodation, proof of financial support, medical certificate

Work Permit & Residence Permit

Required for foreign nationals seeking employment in Ghana.

  • Duration: 1-2 years (renewable)
  • Fee: $200-500 USD
  • Process: Employer must apply through the Ghana Immigration Service. The work permit is separate from the residence permit.
  • Requirements: Job offer from a Ghana-registered company, educational qualifications, medical certificate, police clearance from home country

Right of Abode

A special residency programme for persons of African descent, allowing indefinite stay in Ghana.

  • Duration: 10 years (renewable)
  • Fee: ~$150 USD
  • Eligibility: Persons of African descent from the diaspora
  • Benefits: Live and work in Ghana without a work permit, no visa required for entry
  • Application: Through Ghana Immigration Service or selected embassies
