Europe hosts one of the largest Ghanaian diaspora communities worldwide, with significant populations in the United Kingdom, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, and Spain. Ghana's diplomatic missions across Europe provide essential consular services and foster bilateral relations with European governments and the European Union.

Key European Missions

  • Ghana High Commission, London — the largest Ghanaian mission in Europe, serving the estimated 100,000+ Ghanaians in the UK
  • Ghana Embassy, Berlin — serves the growing Ghanaian community in Germany
  • Ghana Embassy, Rome — serves Italy's significant Ghanaian population
  • Ghana Embassy, The Hague — serves the Netherlands and has a connection to the International Court of Justice
  • Ghana Embassy, Brussels — also serves as the mission to the European Union

Schengen & UK Visas

Ghanaian passport holders require a Schengen visa to visit EU/EEA countries. Apply at the embassy of the country you will visit first or stay longest in.

The UK requires a separate UK visa for Ghanaian nationals, as it is not part of the Schengen area.

Document Authentication in Europe

Ghana embassies in Europe handle a high volume of document authentication requests for educational certificates (WASSCE, university degrees), marriage certificates, and powers of attorney. In the UK, documents must first be legalized by the FCDO. In EU countries, an apostille from the national authority is required before embassy submission.

See our document legalization guide for the full step-by-step process and fees.
