This guide covers how residents of the UAE obtain a Ghana visa, whether through the e-Visa portal or the Embassy of Ghana in Abu Dhabi, which handles visa applications for all seven emirates.

First: Do You Need a Visa at All?

The UAE’s population is overwhelmingly expatriate, so the answer depends on your nationality, not your residence:

• Citizens of ECOWAS member states — Nigeria, Senegal, Côte d’Ivoire, Togo, Benin, and the other member countries — enter Ghana without a visa under the ECOWAS Protocol on Free Movement, even when travelling from the UAE on a Gulf residence visa. A valid national passport is all you need at the border.
• Ghanaian citizens obviously need no visa — but do check your passport validity before booking.
• Emirati nationals and other nationalities should verify current entry arrangements. Ghana has expanded visa-free and visa-on-arrival access in recent years, and bilateral arrangements change — confirm your specific nationality’s position with the Abu Dhabi mission or via the official e-Visa portal, which lists eligible countries during the application process.

Option 1: The Ghana e-Visa

Ghana operates an official electronic visa system at evisa.ghana.gov.gh. For eligible nationalities this is usually the fastest route from the UAE: you apply online, upload your documents, pay electronically, and receive your approval without a trip to Abu Dhabi. Applicants typically provide a passport scan (validity of at least six months is the standard expectation), a recent photograph, travel itinerary, proof of accommodation or a host invitation, and evidence of sufficient funds. Apply well before your flight — and only ever through the official government portal, not third-party sites that resell applications at a markup.

Option 2: Applying Through the Embassy in Abu Dhabi

If your nationality is not covered by the e-Visa system, or your case needs handling in person, apply at the Embassy of Ghana, Villa 39, Al Nawal Street, Al Rowdah, Abu Dhabi.
