Emergency Services Available
Lost or Stolen Passport
Report to local police immediately, then contact the Ghana High Commission Pretoria. An Emergency Travel Certificate (ETC) can be issued within 1-3 working days for urgent travel.
Arrest or Detention
If a Ghanaian citizen is arrested or detained in South Africa, they have the right to contact the Ghana High Commission Pretoria. The embassy can visit detainees, provide a list of local lawyers, and notify family members in Ghana.
Hospitalisation or Serious Illness
The embassy can help contact family in Ghana, liaise with medical providers, and assist with insurance claims where applicable.
Death of a Ghanaian Citizen
The embassy assists with registering the death, repatriation of remains, and liaising with families and funeral homes.
Victims of Crime
The embassy can provide support, help liaise with local police, and connect victims with support services.
Emergency Travel Certificate
If you need to travel urgently and your passport is lost, stolen, or expired:
- Contact the Ghana High Commission Pretoria immediately
- Bring: police report (if stolen), any available ID, two photographs, flight itinerary
- Fee: $30 - $50 USD
- Processing: 1-3 working days
- Valid for: single journey only
